Woodruff Arts Center

One of my favorite places in Atlanta is the Woodruff Arts Center, which is the major visual and performing arts center in town. For me, there are a lot of interesting things to see, to listen, to play and to learn in the center. Opened in 1968, Woodruff Arts Center houses four arts divisions in one campus, including the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Alliance Theatre, and Arts for Learning. The coolest thing is, the center is a non-profit organization that serves the public people without the purpose of making money.

I like to go to the High museum every season for new exhibitions. When I get into this pure- white color museum, I always feel peaceful and refreshed. I feel myself so ready to see the new paintings and sculptures, no matter they belong to the ”Renaissance”, “Impression” or “Modern”. One time, the museum even hosted the world famous super car exhibition. Isn’t that fabulous? My little trick to save the money for admission ticket is to use the “Fulton County Free Saturday” with my GT buzz card or “Museum on Us” with my Bank of America card. By taking advantage of these two special offers, I am happy to go to the museum very often to learn more. Be sure to arrive early because there is always a long line on the weekends!

I have been to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) several times, most of the time were back to the time when I was still dating with my husband before we got married. Going to the concert is very romantic to me and I really enjoy the music and atmosphere. ASO has a full list of performances during the whole year, including Symphonies with visiting artists and Christmas special concerts. Sometimes, they do open performance in the Piedmont Park to public for free.

The Alliance Theatre is a good place to watch experimental theatre shows. The space is tiny but chic and trendy. Because of the limitation, the stage and the audiences is close to each other, so it is very easy to interact with actors and get into the stories.

Georgia Tech and the Woodruff Arts Center have partnered to offer students an all access $20 Season Pass. The pass may be used to reserve tickets to performances of the Alliance Theatre and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, as well as admission to the High Museum of Art and its programs such as Friday Night Lates, Film Screenings, and College Night(s).

I think anyone who is interested in arts should use the special offers that I mentioned in this article. These informations are truly from my living experience in Atlanta. Have fun!
